NAME: Yuui Fluorite
CANON: Shiritsu Horitsuba Gakuen
CANON REFERENCE: Here!
AGE: 17
GENDER: Male
YEAR IN SCHOOL/FACULTY POSITION: HS4
APPEARANCE:

Yuui looks like this but a bit younger since he's 17 in the AU.
He generally has a rather tidy and put together appearance, in contrast to his twins more flamboyant style. His style is a bit artsy and bohemic-chic mixed with european fashion and most of his clothes come from Italy. When very relaxed he can sometimes be found in very silly t-shirts his brother bought for him, though he draws the line at continually showing off his midriff.
PERSONALITY:
Yuui’s demeanor is usually rather calm and soft and he is often seen with a small smile on his lips. He is very easy going and generally prefers to bend with people rather than trying to go against them. He doesn’t like to stand out much, preferring to take the side seat or work behind the scenes instead. Of course this doesn’t mean that he’s a push over. If something really matters to him he tries to make sure he gets his way, but he will still do his best to not make too much of a fuss about it. There is one possible exception to this rule and that’s if it’s something that concerns his twin brother. But even then his limited experience tells him that making a big fuss usually only makes things worse for the person he’s trying to protect.
He makes for a very steady and loyal friend, sort of the calm rock that takes everything in stride. But if you’re going to be his friend there is one thing you must learn to live with for things to work out smoothly. No matter how close you are you will never be what matters most to him and if push comes to shove he will always put his brother before you, or anyone else really. This is not something that tends to be a problem for him but it has caused some conflict at times, usually from well-meaning friends who want him to have his own life and live more for himself.
And his friends have good reason to worry because Yuui has a tendency on giving up anything if it helps his brother, this including his choice to study music even though his actual passion lies in cooking. Being the calmer of the two twins and the one their parents had a much easier time relating to, as well as the only one able to fully accept and love his brother the way he is, Yuui has chosen to make himself into a shield for his brother against the rest of the world. It has come to the point that if Yuui had to choose, then the world could burn before anyone even looked at his brother the wrong way and he would give up his own life for Fai’s in a heartbeat if needed.
He’s very good at cooking and it’s something he takes great interest in, especially baking but that could be because he has a brother with something of a sweet tooth. If it hadn’t been for his talent when it comes to music he would very much have liked to pursue a career in it, or at least taken some more professional cooking classes. But while he still hasn’t completely given up on the idea, and very much enjoys cooking on his spare time, he has pretty much resigned himself to a career in music. It’s not that he doesn’t enjoy music as well, in fact he finds great pleasure in it, but if he had the freedom to choose which of the two would be his profession and which would remain a hobby, he definitely would have reversed the two.
He’s not completely at ease with his mutant powers, not because they’re a mutation as such, but because it seems likely that they're the cause of his musical talent. Meaning that if not for his mutation he probably wouldn’t have had to make the compromises he’s made.
It's very difficult to rattle him and almost no matter what you throw at him he's probably just going to smile and roll with it. And while there will certainly be mutations at the school that will surprise him, he will still probably have a relatively easy time getting used to it. He has a very open mind and as long as it doesn't hurt people he's probably cool with it, and once again if it's his brother he will be fine with it no matter if it hurts others or not.
POWERS/ABILITIES: Yuui has the mutant ability of sound manipulation with a emotional and siren like orientation.
At the moment it primarily takes its form in a natural affinity for most, if not all, musical instruments and a very captivating voice. If very focused, or otherwise very motional invested, he can transfer the feelings of a musical piece onto his listeners making them feel or do things depending on the music and his own emotions and/or intentions.
The siren part of his abilities is the part that is easiest for him mentally and physically with the fallback that he has very little control of when he's doing it or how to stop. The emotional transference takes a lot more out of him and generally leaves him exhausted not only mentally but physically as well.
He is unable to influence anyone who is unable to hear him, so people who are deaf or happens to be wearing earphones which mute out the sound will not be affected. Attempting to use it through different mediums such as through a phone or a recording will definitely limit the effect the music will have on the listener. He's also not able to affect very many people at the same time, each and every extra person adding more strain on his powers and his ability to keep the influence going. If too many people are present his powers will go into overload and he will most likely just pass out after only a second or two.
AU HISTORY: Yuui has always been the calmer of the twins, managing his classes with good grade and rarely causing any trouble. The only real complaints his parents have had is his lack of friends since he tends to keep more to his brother than seeking out other people. He's always been there to protect and care for his brother, and even more so after Fai was diagnosed with ADHD.
To lessen the burden of guilt placed on Fai's shoulders by their parents Yuui then tried even harder to be the "good" twin and follow the path their parents wanted for him. Years later he realized that while helping this has also made the gap between his brother and their parents even wider and that he has no idea how to fix it. Changing course not being an option since every time he doesn't manage to measure up to his parent's expectations it gets blamed on Fai, he's been trapped in an evil spiral and feeling more and more guilty. There has only been one time when he's really opposed his parents wishes, and that was when they wanted to send him to his paternal grandmother in Florence to study music properly and even then, they came out as the winners.
Their father suffers from Parkinson's disease, something that their mother likes to use as an argument when one of the twins' behaviour is deemed inappropriate. While this has mainly been directed towards Fai, Yuui has not been completely spared from it despite his efforts to behave. Almost all of these times have been connected to his unwillingness to pursue music as a professional career. After all, his playing makes his father feel so much better and doesn't he know how happy both of them would be to see him succeed? The illness, and especially the medication, makes their father very tired over extended periods of time, leaving their mother to take care of everything. He also very rarely have the energy or will to go against his wife even if he doesn't always agree with her.
When Yuui was 14 he was sent to his extended family in Florence, Italy in order to go to music school there. As much as he would hate to admit it being away from his twin has helped him to open up to other people and make friends and interests of his own. He's still kept in close contact with his brother through emails and skype, though not so much with his parents. He hasn't been home in the united states since then until he was called home to enter the Xavier institute, his parents choosing to travel to Florence to meet with him during the holidays.
While in Florence he has not only studies music but has also been able to take some culinary classes thanks to his grandmother. The deal between them has been that as long as he doesn't let it get in the way of his school she will help him with his hobby no matter what his parents think about it. Neither of them have felt it necessary to inform his parents about this. Which is something he will never feel guilty about especially after finding out that his parents, and brother, hid Fai's mutant abilities from him, instead telling him that he was going to a school from children with special needs. It was not until after his own mutant powers were discovered that he was told the truth.
While his mutation technically manifested itself when he was very young it wasn't discovered at the time and instead believed to simply be an affinity when it comes to music. He's always had a natural talent for musical instruments, but especially the piano and singing, and people tend to be very drawn to his music. It has also helped to sooth his father's pain from time to time which, once again, was interpreted as the soothing powers of music in general and not as a possible mutation.
The big reveal happened at the age of seventeen when he was studying music in Florens. Being a bit stressed he poured himself into the musical piece he was playing which just happened to be a "näckpolska" (reel of the näck). The mythos and story behind the piece is that once playing those who hear it are compelled to dance, not unusually to their death, and if a mere mortal is the one playing it then they will be unable to stop playing. As a result of this he managed to make his professors and the students present dance and was himself unable to stop until another teacher, checking in, physically managed to pry him away from the piano.
While happy to be in the same school as his twin again he's not quite sure what to feel about both his own mutant powers and the fact that Fai has lied about having them as well. It has also caused a rift between him and his parents that he doesn't know how to fix.

1ST PERSON SAMPLE: Sample taken from meme here.
THIRD PERSON SAMPLE:
He sits alone in the airport waiting for the plane that is going to take him back to... he doesn't even know what to call it anymore. The word 'home' feels wrong, Florence feels so much more like home to him than the United States have ever been if it hadn't been for Fai. Because no matter where in the world they both may be, with his twin will always be where he belongs. So he should be ecstatic, he should be bouncing on the balls of his feet and be unable to sit still in anticipation instead of staring down the clock down as if that would make it go even slower whilst tapping a nervous rhythm with his foot. And every time he notices the sound he forces himself to stop, scared of what might happen even though this is a nervous habit he's had for years without anything bad happening from it.
He's still reeling from the news, both of his own mutation powers and the powers of his brother, and if he's completely honest it's the second one that truly hurts him. His own powers he can deal with, even if it stings him, even if he resents it, he can deal with being different. He's seen Fai deal with it most of his life and in a way it almost seems fair that he too should know what it's like. But to find out that his parents have lied to him for two years, that his brother, his twin has been lying to him for so long... it pierces his heart in a way he doesn't know how to handle. Until now they'd always told each other everything, nothing was held back, or at least so he had thought. But if Fai has lied about this then how can he know what else he might have hidden from him? There are so many things he wants to ask him, so many things he wants to know, the most pressing one being where he went wrong. What it was he did to make Fai lose his faith and trust in him, and what he can do to fix it again?
Without realizing it he's begun tapping again and he freezes, glancing around him in a quiet panic. There are people all around him, hurring about and minding their own business and he relaxes a bit. This isn't like him, he's the calm one, the one who can deal with things and no matter what he's feeling now that is what he is going to have to be again. He closes his eyes and draws some deep breaths, letting a calming tune dance through his mind, soothing him as much as he can be soothed. When he opens his eyes he's tapping again but this time he lets it continue, concentrating on letting the tension out more and more for each tap. In his mind he's beginning to go through recipes in his head, trying to think of which ones he should show his brother when he comes home, feeling himself slowly fall back to temporary peace of mind.
Then his time has run out and it's time to board. Sure, he will have plenty of hours on the plane to go over this over and over again but somehow it doesn't feel like it matters and whatever peace he's managed to come to now is all he's going to get. And still, in spite of all the hurt confusion the most powerful thing he feels right now is happiness. He's coming home to his twin, and somehow he knows that everything is going to be alright as long as they're together again.
